I agree to some extent with the fact that parents name their kids in someway to set them up for their future, however I also think that sometimes parents name their kids to get a reaction out of people or to just be different. Like the name Shithead. No matter how you want to pronounce it the name is still spelt Shithead and her daughter will hate that name for her whole life and probably get it changed.
You next have to think about the point that names go down from high end to low end. So if a name that was at the high end moves to the low end what does that say about the the people who were named it at the beginning? I believe nothing, by that point in time they have already started on their path either being one of greatness, mediocrity, or failure. If a name is to determine where someones life is going to take them wouldn't everyone try and name their kids something spectacular that is going to set them up for life? However we find that is not the case at all. So what does a name actually do? If it doesn't guide your life them does it matter what your name is? I do feel that to some extent that a name, like the example given says, could lead to more job offers just based on the name. A name is a first impression even before you see that person in real life. Would you want to hire someone named Shithead for an important position? The answer is no.

I agree with you here. I think it’s important that parents give their kids names that are not going to make their childhood miserable. I don’t think, it’s smart to use a child’s name as a way to make a statement. Some parents need to think of the economic consequences that come with certain names, and ask themselves the question. Is it worth it? Unless you are from a wealthy background where you children are not going to rely on the standard hiring process to get a job, you need to think about the marketability of a name before you give it to a child. It sad to say, but that’s reality. Names do serve as a first impression.
I agree with your comment 100%. It is true that a name is a first impression and if you give the wrong one from the start than you are doomed to fail.
First impressions mean a lot. A unique name can also make you stand out from the competition having to do with job offers. If I were at a social gathering like the MBA meet and greet earlier this semester, I would most likely remember the students I met that had the most unique names rather than a generic name. A Unique name can be helpful during life to separate you from the mass population.
I also wanted to touch a bit on nicknames. One could have a great name but be given a catchy crappy nickname at a young age. When someone lives in the same town their whole childhood, this nickname is sure to stick. An embarassing nickname given to you by your peers could be embarassing and detrimental to your upbringing and social abilities.
